How to assemble LEARS

The assembling surface of LEARS has a structure which increases adhesion what enables sticking them with the use of all available on the market construction adhesives to be used with ceramics and stone. The choice of adhesive depends on the field of its application given by manufacturer (interior or exterior). The same refers to the base. While sticking it is necessary to support LEARS in the required position. In order to do so, one can use supports, crampet hooks, nails or wall plugs.

Step by step assembly instructions

  • Step one
    • level surfaces planned for cornice assembly. It can be done with the use of plaster (mortar) or fixing glue (with small surfaces).
  • Step two
    • mark out horizontal and vertical lines. It can be done with the use of plumb lines and mason’s levels.
  • Step three
    • dilute and apply glue on roughed surface of cornice (use a comb spatula).
  • Step four
    • cut the cornice to the surface of gluing and wait for a few seconds (until the adhesive binds). To make it more comfortable, one can use plugs (wall plugs are most often used or previously prepared level boards (for gluing cornice in horizontal position).
  • Step five
    • after glue dries and seams are processed it is necessary to paint the cornice according to instructions on the paint package (base – paint or paint – 2 or 3 layers). One can use any elevation paints.

How to process seams (expansion gaps)?

Joints between the separate boards of cornice shall be filled in with fixing glue. Technological burner shall be used for it: hot air shall be directed to the place of contact (polystyrene shrinks under the influence of hot air). With the use of the burner one shall begin to melt polystyrene on the whole surface to the depth of 3-5mm; the space that was formed shall be filled with glue and glass fibre mesh reinforcement layer shall be placed. The same has to be done with another place of contact but without the act of placing the mesh (as there shall be only one mesh layer); then elements are joined making sure there is 2-3 mm gap left between them. Excessive glue is collected and the place is filled with flexible assembly mortar. In 2-3 days when the mortar gets harder gently remove the residuals.

The surface is ready for painting.
